MISSION 2013

A True Spirit of Inspiration!

Our Missions are all about caring, sharing, making sacrifices and compromises, volunteerism and team work…

May 6th to 14th, 2013, United for Hope Foundation led a successful Medical Mission Trip to St. Ann Parish, Jamaica.  With 23 Volunteers from the USA and 4 additional Volunteers joining us in Jamaica we worked together as a team and served over a thousand (1000) happy and grateful individuals, out of make-shift Day Clinics at Schools and Churches way in the hills, off beaten paths in remote communities.   We served a Boy’s Correctional Center above the town of St. Ann’s Bay, next day at Beecher Town All Age school, then unto Linton Park All Age School, Epworth Baptist Church, Epworth Dist., Exchange All Age School and Moseley Hall district in Blackstoneage.

Our services included a Dental Clinic which provided Teeth Cleaning and Exams, we performed Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Pap Smears (to detect cervical cancer) & Prostate Screenings, Filled Prescriptions, offered Health, Nutritional & Hygiene Counseling & Tutored, Mentored & Interacted with the Youths and Students in the communities.   We generously donated medicines, hygiene and medical supplies, reading glasses, sunshades, children’s clothing, back-packs, toys and books to the children and needy individuals.   We presented the Ocho Rios Clinic with a Projector to aid the Clinic's educational programs and donated First-Aid Gift Packs and boxes containing Classroom Supplies & Board Games to the Schools we visited.

Pap Smear Specimens collected during the Mission were transported to the USA for voluntary processing through the efforts of our Volunteer Pathologist MD and her Sentara Labs, the results of the specimens have been transmitted to the necessary Health Protocols and Community Laisions in Jamaica since late May 2013.  We worked closely with the Ministry of Health, the Regional Health Authorities, Ocho Rios Clinic Dental, some Community Advocates and the local Rotary Club that heartily hosted us and we are satisfied knowing that we made an impact on each and every individual served.

The last day of the Mission we had an overwhelmingly crowd of over 250 people all at the same time, at our Day Clinic in a small Church in Moseley Hall when a participant broke down emotionally commenting that our presence and support had brought their community much joy and help, she said our spirit of dedication and encouragement was helping her and others feel a sense of belonging knowing because we "showed that we cared."   We feel truly blessed that Mission 2013 was a positive inspiration, it was awesomely benefiting, successful and fun.   We made an impact!  We partnered, we delivered, we served, donated, embraced, encouraged, brought smiles and discovered new places, forgotten places and gained new friends who are now our added United for Hope families.
